“I do not seek, I find”
Since studying Fine Art in London and Belfast, and gaining a Master’s degree I have worked, while raising my family, for over twenty years as art technician in a school, all the while immersing myself in new and innovative processes.
With my children now grown I return to my first passion with renewed focus and commitment which I hope is evident in the energy and vision I bring to my practice.
My process is one of playful experimentation. I do not start a new work with a clear vision of the end point, but rather, allow the paint or charcoal to lead me there.
My approach to charcoal drawing is often unconventional - I use every kind of charcoal available to buy and mix it with water, alcohol or acetone to help it misbehave.
Paint faces a similar fate as I use mediums it both loves and hates. How one substance can be attracted to or repelled by another can lead to weeks of experimental painting.
